Rav Hagaon Rav Tuvia Goldstein zt”l

About Rav Tuvia Goldstein zt”l

Rav Tuvia Goldstein was born in the town of Waldwa, Poland in 5677 (1917) to HaRav Chaim Meir. His parents passed away when Tuvia was still a young boy and he went to live with his grandfather, HaRav Yonah Yehoshua Goldstein zt”l. His grandfather on his mother’s side was HaRav Dovid Lieberman zt”l, the rov of the city of Chelm.

“Rav Tuvia” as he was known to the Torah world, was the rare combination of master rosh yeshiva, profoundly influencing the development of his students at the Yeshiva Rabbi Jacob Joseph and Yeshiva Emek Halacha, and sought after decisor on the most complex Halachic issues. For many years he was a close friend of and collaborator with the Gaon Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l, and contributed much to the resolution of many seemingly intractable legal problems.

Rav Tuvia established and served as a Rosh Yeshiva at the Yeshiva Emek Halacha in Boro Park for over 30 years.

Kollel Emek Halacha was established by Rav Tuvia Goldstein zt’l in Boro Park, Brooklyn over 40 years ago. Those of us who learned under the Rosh Yeshiva zt"l or have been involved in the Yeshiva over the past 40 years, know that he molded hundreds of talmidim. However, there are a select few who formed a unique group during the last years of his life. They are of the crown of his talmidim. He regarded them very highly and considered them to be the future poskim - fulfilling his dream that Klal Yisroel always have Rabanim to Pasken Halacha in all generations until the coming of Moshiach! Rabbi Yisroel Glatzer was the Rosh Hakollel during the Rosh Yeshiva's later years and at the time of his Petirah. Several of our chaverim, former talmidim, and mispalllelim, as well as others have joined to ensure that a group of talmidei chachamim will continue to function together under the leadership of Rabbi Glatzer as Rosh Kollel in Brooklyn. Rav Glatzer has recruited former senior talmidim of the Rosh Yeshiva zt”l, and the kollel now has close to 30 members learning Halacha l’maaseh and being trained to “pasken” in the unique derech of the Rosh Yeshiva zt”l. Shiurim are given regularly by Rabbi Glatzer and many other Rabbonim including HaRav Mordechai Goldstein Shlita (Rav Tuvia’s son and Rosh Yeshiva of Emek Halacha in Eretz Yisroel), Rav Binyamin Rubin (former Rosh Hakollel), and HaRav Yisroel Dov Webster (Dayan of Bais Medresh Zichron Tuvia).

Can there be any greater sifsosov dovevos bekever than for the Rosh Yeshiva’s finest talmidim to continue his kol torah, and for us to enable them to do so? We are all fortunate to have such a dedicated group and to have the z'chus to honor the Rosh Yeshiva’s memory by giving our support. He will surely be able to put a good word in “SHOMAYIM” for all those who help his dream come true that they and their loved one's should merit all the best in everyway possible! May all their good dreams also come true!

The Rosh Hayeshiva zt”l was a Talmud muvhak of Harav Hatzadik Rabbi Baruch Ber Lebowitz and of Harav Hatzadik Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman zt”l .
